Business.NJ.gov is a digital platform serving as a one-stop shop for businesses to navigate and complete permits and licenses in New Jersey. Designed to streamline and simplify the process of starting, operating, and growing a business in the state, Business.NJ.gov offers comprehensive support for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Business.NJ.gov provides a wide range of resources, including:

Prior to Business.NJ.gov, to start and operate a business in the Garden State, companies and aspiring entrepreneurs had to navigate a byzantine process, sifting through 15 State websites and creating multiple accounts to file forms and regulatory filings. Business.NJ.gov streamlines these processes and consolidates tasks spread across multiple agencies into a single, easy-to-use platform for New Jersey businesses.

Business.NJ.gov has been accessed by millions of users, hundreds of thousands of whom have leveraged our business content featuring information from more than a dozen State agencies.

On average, business owners that use Business.NJ.gov start their business 30% faster than those that don't.

Business.NJ.gov directly facilitated the formation of over 55,000 businesses and guided business owners through hundreds of thousands of tasks related to starting or operating their businesses.

One out of every seven businesses established in New Jersey are now formed through Business.NJ.gov.

Users report that Business.NJ.gov saves them time and are more likely to start a business using Business.NJ.gov’s starter kits and other features within the platform that help business owners start and operate their business.

By partnering with State agencies, the platform simplifies complex regulatory requirements into accessible digital formats, making it easier for business owners to obtain permits and licenses.

To save users time, Business.NJ.gov integrates with various databases and systems, providing seamless access to essential information. This centralized hub allows quick retrieval of license statuses and other relevant information by business owners.

The platform also uses plain language to explain rules and regulations, making it easier for business owners to understand their obligations. This approach fosters a more transparent business environment.

Additionally, Business.NJ.gov keeps the community informed through a newsletter with more than 275,000 subscribers, providing updates on regulatory changes, funding programs, and other essential information.

Since introducing its business formation capability in 2022, the platform has processed the formation of over 57,000 businesses, significantly contributing to job creation, innovation, and economic prosperity.

The platform offers comprehensive step-by-step guidance, regulatory information, and essential tools, enabling businesses to launch more swiftly and efficiently. According to a survey of over 700 New Jersey business owners, users of Business.NJ.gov launched their businesses 25 days faster on average than those who did not use it. 1

By expediting the business launch process, Business.NJ.gov empowers entrepreneurs to start earning, hiring, and engaging in commerce sooner. This acceleration results in additional economic gains and enhances New Jersey's GDP.

  1. This estimate was based on an exploratory survey of 341 business owners who utilized Business.NJ.gov to start their business and 395 who did not. Business owners were asked “How long did the entire process of starting your business take you, including starting your research, receiving your certificate of formation, and researching all other permits and licenses?” and given ranges to choose from starting at 1-3 days to over 12 months. Survey was not controlled for type or size of business.
  2. This estimate was based on multiplying the average earnings per hour of small business owners in New Jersey by the number of workable hours saved by forming via Business.NJ.gov. Workable hours is defined as 8 hours of work for each additional weekday that the business is able to operate sooner. This metric is provisional and subject to revision as we enhance our methodology and obtain more precise data.

By partnering with various State agencies, the platform offers a Live Chat service where users can directly correspond with experts relevant to their issues. This immediate access to specialized advice ensures accurate and effective assistance for business owners.
